Important: Action Required for Hyperglance OS & Security Update
We’re rolling out a critical OS and security update for Hyperglance. This update is different from our usual container updates – it requires a few extra steps from you.
If you're running Hyperglance in your own environment, please read on. This update, 1-2025, will keep your system secure and ready for what's coming next.
What’s Changing?
This update includes:
- Upgrading Ubuntu 20.04 to 22.04: Ubuntu 20.04 reached end-of-life on May 31, 2025. If you’re still on 20.04, you’re no longer receiving standard security updates.
- Updating Docker Compose: Newer Docker Compose versions improve reliability and compatibility.
- Switching to “rootless” containers based on Ubuntu 22.04: We’re moving to rootless container images for improved security.
- These changes prepare your deployment for Update 2 (RKE2 migration). Follow the migration guide here.
Why This Matters
If you don’t complete this update:- You’ll be running Hyperglance on an unsupported OS after May 31, 2025.
- Your Hyperglance users will periodically receive an in-product notification about this update.
- You will miss out on significant security improvements and future product updates.
Who Needs to Take Action?
If you're an existing customer who manages Hyperglance as a VM or Instance then this update is relevant to you.
- If you’re using Ubuntu Pro: Skip this update. You’re running a version of Ubuntu that doesn’t reach EOL, and rootless containers aren’t compatible with FIPs yet.
- If you installed Hyperglance on a non-Ubuntu OS: You’re responsible for managing the OS in this case but still need to take action to update the Hyperglance Docker components.
- If you deployed Hyperglance on Kubernetes via Helm: There is no action for you at this time. We will have an updated Helm Chart ready soon.
What do I need to do?
